Sharon saved Jerusalem By Uri Dan Jerusalem Post (October 5) - MK Ariel Sharon's visit to the Temple Mount last Thursday saved the Temple Mount and saved Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Even if he never becomes prime minister, it will be recorded to his great credit that he was the sole Jewish leader in 2000 who, by a single act, put the fate of Jerusalem, in its true colors, on the national agenda. Once again, my dear friend Sharon stood at the center of the Zionist-Jewish struggle, as he has done repeatedly over the course of the last 50 years: In the Latrun battles to raise the siege on Jerusalem in 1948; in the reprisal actions, at the head of the paratroops, in the Fifties; in the struggle against the diversion of the sources of the Jordan River, in the Sixties; in the Six-Day War; in the War of Attrition; in the crossing of the Suez Canal in 1973; in the establishment of settlements in Judea and Samaria; in the peace negotiations with Egypt in 1978; in the eviction of Yasser Arafat and his terrorists from Beirut in 1982; and in other critical decision-making situations. This was how Sharon acted on the Temple Mount. This was the act of a responsible Jewish leader, as opposed to the common apparatchiks, who continue to spout lies every day while managing a Jewish ghetto in the borders of the 1947 Partition Plan. For this Sharon deserves a real medal. The Palestinians claim in their deceitful and malicious propaganda that Sharon's visit to the Temple Mount was the spark that lit the flame of the riots. If this is the case, then we should be pleased that this spark lit the flame and thus enabled the Israelis to see the true face of the Palestinian hatred: Arafat's "policemen" and Tanzim militia, firing on his specific orders in order to murder Israeli soldiers and citizens, from Gaza, through Ramallah, to Nablus and Jenin. Why is Shlomo Ben-Ami holding negotiations with this war criminal in order to divide with him the sovereignty over the Temple Mount and eastern Jerusalem? After all, with a single radio broadcast Arafat could halt the shooting. The Arab MKs screamed "provocation" against Sharon on the Temple Mount. Under Arafat's orders, and in coordination with him, they then rushed off to incite the Israeli Arabs and to turn the entire country into a battlefield. They rioted from Beersheba to Jaffa, Umm el-Fahm, Haifa, Acre, Nazareth, and the Galilee. Their real face was thus once again revealed. In their hate-distorted view the entire Jewish state (even within the green line) is the real provocation. The Israeli Arab violence on Rosh Hashana proved that their aim is identical to that of Arafat - to wipe out Israel. State Department Spokesman Richard Boucher was quick off the mark on the eve of Rosh Hashana to connect the rioting with Sharon's visit. Not only was this gross interference by Clinton's administration in Israel's internal affairs and its holy place, the Temple Mount, but it also encouraged the Palestinians to continue the violence and terror, despite the fact that the CIA was aware that Arafat was personally supervising it. The president of France and his foreign minister were also quick to accuse Sharon of responsibility for the riots. Jacques Chirac, who is currently involved in an odious financial corruption scandal, himself played the part of an agent provocateur when he crudely insulted Israel during his visit to the Old City of Jerusalem. Was his prime minister, Lionel Jospin, stoned in Bir Zeit University because of provocation or because he awarded this terrorist academy a French grant of two million francs? As usual, mentally warped Jews, including apparatchiks and journalists, were quick to place the blame on Sharon. They did not try to crucify him, but to nail him to a Magen David. This has also happened in other periods of history. During the Nazi persecution in Germany, during the Thirties, before the ovens started working in Auschwitz and Treblinka, there were Jews, journalists and politicians, who attempted to justify the Nazi hate by the behavior of the Jews themselves. In the same way, here and now in Israel there are Jews who are trying to explain the outburst of hate by the Palestinians in all kinds of ways, from the lie about Sharon's visit to the lie about "repression of the Israeli Arabs." These Jews with perverted intelligence - when they witness the Rosh Hashana terrorism - fail to understand this terrible hate, whose aim is to destroy the Jewish State at the first opportunity. Historians still ask, why did the Jews not awake in time to the danger of the Holocaust? Why did their leaders in Eretz Yisrael not raise the alarm, warn them? A single Jewish leader, Sharon, went up to the Temple Mount, of right and of his due, and thus sounded the alarm that was heard from one end of the world to the other. This aroused sleeping Jews, who began to realize that when the Temple Mount is in danger, their lives, and their homes in Jaffa, Haifa, Acre, and the rest of the country, are also threatened. May you be signed and sealed with happiness!
